MOLISERO.CERAMIC - Davy Guillaume Armengaud

Davy Armengaud-Fructuoso (France, 1983), known artistically as Molisero.Ceramic, is a sculptor and ceramic artist based in Occitania. Primarily self-taught, he has developed an artistic practice centred on exploring ceramic matter as a field of formal and sensory investigation.

His work has been presented in galleries, contemporary art fairs and various heritage sites, establishing a practice marked by a dialogue between sculpture, fire and the material transformation of the work.

Working exclusively by hand, using modelling techniques without the potter’s wheel (pinching, coiling and stamping), he develops organic, refined forms that evoke landscapes, geological fragments or silent presences.

His current research focuses on the expressive possibilities of Terra Sigillata subjected to alternative firing processes. Through this creative journey, the artist embraces an approach inspired by Wabi-Sabi, in which the unpredictable action of fire becomes a co-author of the work, celebrating the beauty of imperfection.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

Dark Hokusai Wave

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION:

Dark Hokusai Wave is a contemporary piece with refined, clean lines, made using Terra Sigillata. The fine porcelain slip has been subjected to intense smoking, giving it a dark and mysterious appearance.

Inspired by the famous Japanese print, a subtle, stylized delineation divides the body of the vase, evoking the silhouette of the great wave. This boundary is not merely aesthetic: it interrupts the polished surface of the base, disrupting its formal harmony.

Thus, the wave introduces a dramatic and conceptual tension at the centre of the piece, disturbing the vase’s minimalism and establishing a dialogue between calm and latent movement.

TECHNIQUE:

Smoked Terra Sigillata

MAIN MATERIALS:

White stoneware with grog, ball clay slip.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

Nacimiento de la casualidad

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION:

Through the emblematic form of the egg, a universal symbol of fertility, origin, and potential life, this piece explores the convergence between sculptural intention and chance.

The ceramic surface becomes the canvas for a spontaneous metamorphosis through the foil saggar technique. The marks, textures, and tonal variations that cover the work escape the creator’s absolute control, allowing the fire to act unpredictably.

This dialogue between the primordial form and nature’s uncontrollable marks celebrates the beauty of the organic, whose patterns evoke veins and the mysteries of a fortuitous birth.

MAIN MATERIALS:

White stoneware with grog, kaolin slip, metallic salts.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

La Pell del Pinetell

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION:

Inspired by the saffron milk cap mushroom (Lactarius deliciosus), this piece is conceived as a hybrid object in which human intervention and the force of nature merge into a single body.

The vase celebrates an extreme textural duality: the neck evokes an organic, rough, almost mineral structure, mimicking the mushroom’s gills taking root in the clay. In contrast, the body of the piece unfolds into a carefully polished and smoked surface.

It is a poetic dialogue between the primitive and the refined, a ceramic skin that blurs the boundaries between the plant kingdom and the art of fire.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

La Sombra de Tokio

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION:

Born from the purity of white clays, this minimalist vase transcends its material origins through a dramatic contrast. The upper section, meticulously hand-polished over an extended period, shines with a silky elegance, like a serene urban night. In contrast, the textured base evokes the organic roughness of ancient earth and vernacular architecture. Following a deeply Japanese spirit, the work has undergone a gas firing followed by an intense post-smoking process. This ritual process has enveloped it in a “nighttime halo,” a veil of smoke that integrates imperfection and shadow into its essence, capturing the poetic stillness that emerges after the agitation of the vibrant metropolis.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

Desgarro Latente

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION:

Desgarro Latente explores suspended movement and the vulnerability of matter. Through the tension between the rounded, enclosing form of the stoneware and the fracture that divides it, the piece does not present itself as a static object, but as a living body in constant transformation, where the rupture seems to be unfolding endlessly before the viewer’s eyes.
