In 2025, she was a finalist for the Dießen Young Ceramics Prize (Germany), further strengthening her international profile.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

Quatre Focs

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION:

These funerary urns are inspired by Egyptian canopic jars.

The artist offers her own interpretation of the funerary urn as a ritual act, speaking of death through life: being born, growing, reproducing and dying. The piece is sgraffito-decorated with motifs evoking the four stages of life.

“4 Fires” is the name Iris gave to the work. The first firing, intended to achieve carbonisation, did not go as expected; the pieces did not acquire the desired tone.

On the second attempt, while the pieces were being smoked, turning black like charcoal, Les Gavarres were also shrouded in smoke.

Fire in Les Gavarres.

And four fires in the studio.

YEAR OF CREATION:

TECHNIQUE USED:

Designed, modelled and sgraffito-decorated by the artist. Wheel-thrown pieces by Marcos Pacheco.

MAIN MATERIALS:

Fired using a smoke-firing technique in a gas kiln.
