CRIS NOGUERA CERAMIC - Cristina Noguera Farrés

Cris Noguera is a ceramic artist. Her work explores the relationship between form, texture, and material through unique sculptural pieces. She draws inspiration from nature and from the traces that time leaves on the landscape: irregular terrain, furrows, reliefs, and organic forms that she translates into her own visual language.

Her training combines studies at several specialised schools — including the Escola de Ceràmica de la Bisbal — with direct learning from experienced ceramicists and a long period of self-directed practice. Curiosity and constant experimentation with clay are at the heart of a practice shaped by observation and hands-on work in the studio.

She hand-builds each piece using traditional techniques and a contemporary approach. She works mainly with grogged stoneware, clay blends, and unglazed surfaces or surfaces with minimal intervention, keeping the texture of the material and the imprint of the hands visible.

Her work can be situated within an organic minimalism, closely aligned with a wabi-sabi sensibility. Imperfection and the unexpected are part of the process, giving each piece its own character and a serene presence in which the strength of clay coexists with the delicacy of form.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

Roots nº 02

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION

ROOTS is a collection inspired by roots, the reliefs of the earth, and the irregular forms that grow in nature. Its pieces place the texture of clay at the centre, with marked, organic, and understated surfaces that evoke traces, pathways, and natural structures.

Tall black vase from the ROOTS collection, hand-built using the coiling technique. The piece incorporates multiple applied reliefs that run across and contour the volume, creating an organic and strongly textured surface.

It is made from black grogged clay, a material that provides texture, strength, and subtle mineral contrasts visible on the surface. The piece is left unglazed, preserving the natural presence and finish of the clay while allowing its volumes and organic curves to remain the focus.

Roots nº 01

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION

ROOTS is a collection inspired by roots, the reliefs of the earth, and the irregular forms that grow in nature. Its pieces place the texture of clay at the centre, with marked, organic, and understated surfaces that evoke traces, pathways, and natural structures.

The piece is made from grogged terracotta clay, a material that brings texture, presence, and subtle natural contrasts to the surface. It is left unglazed, preserving the matte character of the clay and allowing its volumes, reliefs, and organic curves to take centre stage.

As a final finish, a patina made from wax and manganese oxide has been applied to the surface to add greater visual depth and accentuate the interplay of light and shadow across the reliefs and crevices of the piece.

TITLE OF THE PIECE:

Slow nº01

CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION

Slow is a collection inspired by the forms and strata of the earth. Its pieces, with organic and understated lines, incorporate contrasting veins of clay that run across the surface like natural traces, highlighting the value of material, time, and imperfection.

Tall vase from the SLOW collection, hand-built using the coiling technique. It is made from black grogged clay, incorporating a white vein that runs through the piece and creates a natural contrast against the dark surface of the clay.

The exterior is left unglazed, preserving the matte, mineral, and textured character of the clay. The interior is finished with a glossy transparent glaze, adding luminosity and creating a subtle contrast between the understated exterior and the interior finish.
